Was the earth CREATED precisely - it’s tilt, distance from the sun, atmosphere etc.? What are the implications if it Wasn’t?   

  • Is this evidence of a Designer or could this have have happened by chance?
  • If it was chance, what had to “go just right” for the necessary precision to occur so that this planet would survive?
  • What are the necessary parameters for a planet to be “habitable” - from a science perspective?
  • What does real science tell us about these questions vs. the evolutionist theories?

Climate Change – the Science and the Rhetoric

  • So, if our planet was created by God, is it so fragile that we can easily destroy it?
  • How much global warming has there been and has it been a net negative or positive?
  • IF… the world is designed, then is it reasonable to assume that fossil fuels were part of that design and intended as available for our use?

Our Program:

Friday Night:

  • 7:00 – 8:00pm “The Worldview questions.”
    • Is Our Planet Privileged – the product of chance or design?      
    • Carl Sagan “it’s a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark”
    • Is that what the evidence says? 
    • What are the things that have to go right to build a habitable planet?
  • 8:10 – 9:00pm “What does it take to “do science” if we are to understand the universe?””  
    • Our argument: habitable planets are the best places overall for discovering and learning about the universe.
    • This is best explained by intelligent design, not by chance.

Saturday Morning:  if the earth was created by God…

  • 9:00 – 10:00am “Climate Change – what the advocates disregard?”
    • Is the earth’s climate so fragile that trace amounts of CO2 could create a catastrophe?
    • Examining the Climate Change advocates arguments.
    • Is the earth warming? Are we causing it? Is that bad for us or an advantage?  Would the proposed solutions make any difference? 
    • UN’s predictions of warming - driven by science or ideology?
  • 10:15 – 11:30 “Where do these worldviews diverge: Two ways of looking at the world”
    • Christian-Theistic: Man is created by God to steward the earth, explore it, and use its resources.  The earth can regenerate many natural resources.
    • Materialists: Man is the result of a blind, purposeless process, is mere matter, and is a parasite on the earth destroying resources that are largely finite.
    • The center of the debate revolves around the issue of What is Man?  If we were designed to be stewards of the planet, then are fossil fuels part of the plan or the evil of man?

Williams E. Simmons Senior Research Fellow – Heritage Foundation 

Jay is director of the DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family and the William E. Simon Senior Research Fellow in Religious Liberty and Civil Society at The Heritage Foundation. He researches, writes, and speaks on policy that protects life, marriage, religious liberty and civil society. Jay has written in the Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, and Daily Caller. Richards is author or editor of a dozen books including Money, Greed, and God, and his latest two, Fight the Good Fight: How an Alliance of Faith and Reason Can Win the Culture War and the just being released 20th Anniversary edition of The Privileged Planet. Jay has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs.  He is the producer of several documentaries including The Privileged Planet and author of five best-selling books. Jay has a Ph.D., in philosophy and theology from Princeton. He lives with his family in the Washington D.C. Metro area.
